The Only Evangelism That Works: Be An Imagebearer

This should answer the question: Bible or Quran

Someone asked me today if I had heard the rumor that Barak Obama would be sworn into office on the Quran. Here is the AP Story.

Obama chooses Lincoln’s Bible for inauguration

WASHINGTON – President-elect Barack Obama will use the same Bible at his inauguration that Abraham Lincoln used for his swearing in.

Obama will be the first president since Lincoln to use that Bible, part of the collection of the Library of Congress.

“President-elect Obama is deeply honored that the Library of Congress has made the Lincoln Bible available for use during his swearing-in,” Presidential Inaugural Committee Executive DirectorEmmett Beliveau said in a statement Tuesday.

Obama is also tracing the train route that Lincoln took and holding a welcome event at the Lincoln Memorial ahead of his Jan. 20 inauguration.

The burgundy velvet Bible with gilded edges was purchased and inscribed by William Thomas Carroll, clerk of the Supreme Court.

It will be on display at the Library of Congress Feb. 12 to May 9 as part of an exhibition titled “With Malice Toward None: The Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Exhibition.” The exhibit will then travel to five other American cities — Sacramento, Calif., Chicago, Indianapolis, Atlanta, and Omaha, Neb. — in commemoration of the bicentennial of Lincoln’s birth on Feb. 12, 1809.

Let’s Start an Adoption Fund in Carroll County

Adoption Financing

Starting an Adoption Fund at Your Church

While many families have room in their hearts and homes for a child, they all too often become discouraged and do not answer the call to adopt due to monetary concerns. Though we have assisted hundreds of families with financial grants and will continue to do so, the need for grants far surpasses any one organization’s ability to provide. We cannot do this alone and implore you to begin a ministry of support in your church or local community for families who are called to adopt.

This web channel will take you step-by-step through the process of beginning your own adoption assistance fund.  In an effort to help “jump-start” a fund, we will even match the amount, up to $2,500, of the first grant given by qualified church adoption funds.

Prayerfully consider beginning such a ministry.  We are confident you will be blessed and awed as you join God in His Kingdom work of “building bridges” to connect waiting orphans with loving families.

President-Elect Obama, Rick Warren & Tolerance

When Misty and I were married two years ago we attended The Church of The Good Shepherd on that following Sunday morning. The pastor is Talbot Davis and I have great respect for his ministry there. I was reading his blog yesterday and this post was just outstanding. I include that post here and his blog address so that you might enjoy his messages as well.

As many of you know by now, President-elect Obama has chosen Rick Warren of Saddleback Church and The Purpose-Driven Life fame to deliver the invocation at the January 20 inauguration.
As you also know, the reaction from some groups has not been positive. I’d direct you to the links but the language in them has been “colorful.”
The primary objection is that Warren is too conservative on a variety of issues, primarily abortion and gay marriage. Although Warren and the church he serves are unparalleled in their works of mercy and justice, his stands strike some as “intolerant.”
So they won’t tolerate him.
Isn’t it ironic?
That in the name of tolerance there are some folks who simply won’t tolerate the presence or the voice of others?
I think President-Elect Obama made a wise and tolerant choice. I believe it will be the first of many.

If you are looking for a great Study Bible

Here is a Great New Study Bible you should look at. Someone just asked about a Bible as a Christmas Gift and I thought of this one. I don’t have this one but would love to some day get a copy.
