Resurrection: the Speaker

Justin Lookadoo
Hey Look, Justin and I have a lot in common. Except for the fact that I have never been a probation officer, I am not bilingual, and I have never written a book.
Well at least we both like to talk!
Oh and by the way, we both Love Jesus!
Ronnie
Justin was a Juvenile Probation Officer.
He spent nearly six years as a Crime Prevention Specialist. This allowed him to see the “before” and “after” of crime prevention. Justin developed and implemented programs for 28 elementary schools. By 2000, the referral rate to the department of corrections was 61% LESS than what was projected.
Justin is bilingual.
Many children in the early elementary classes he works with were missing out on important programs because they spoke only Spanish. So Justin moved to Mexico for three months and studied Spanish for eight hours a day. ¡Que Bueno! Now he offers elementary programs in both English and Spanish. It’s very cool to see the kids faces when “the tall man” starts to speak their language.
Justin has a biology degree.
But don’t call him a science geek! He graduated from Tarleton State University, where he spent a lot of time studying the body, especially how it works and how drugs and chemicals can mess up your insides as well as how gender differences impact the development of the human brain. He talks about drugs, not as someone who has tried them (he hasn’t), but as a biologist who knows the truth behind all of the myths. Justin breaks down the complicated jargon into bite-size pieces that are easy to understand.
Justin loves to talk.
Go figure! He has been speaking to groups since 1989 and is excellent at what he does. To date, he has given over 3,000 programs nationally and internationally. He is a member of the National Speakers Association and has been used as a “speaker model” (kind of like a super model) for high school speech classrooms. But even with all of his success, he is the first to point out that his speaking ability is a gift. Just like Michael Jordan has the gift of being a great athlete, Justin has the gift of being a great speaker. And he works hard at it too! He is always researching and finding the edge that will make his programs current and relevant. Check out the Contact page to find out if Justin is speaking in a town near you and how to get him to come to your school
Justin is an award-winning author!
He is a #1 bestselling author for his book Dateable and has had three other books on the bestseller lists. Two of his books have been nominated for the prestigious Gold Medallion Award and he has sold over 275,000 books nationwide. Not bad for a kid whose two worst subjects were reading and writing.

Resurrection: the Music
Resurrection 2009 is almost here, just two more weeks. Starfield will be there again this year. Thought you might enjoy getting to hear them and know who they are before getting there. As many of you know our Youth at Hillsville FUMC adopted the song “I will go” as our theme song some time ago and you are going for Him!

Check out the 2008 Photo Gallery! The Theme : Overflowing Receive Him. Reveal Him.
Theme verse: John 1:10-12– “He was in the world, and the world came into being through him; yet the world did not know him. He came to what was his own,and his own people did not accept him. But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God.” (NRSV)
Speaker: Justin Lookadoo
Throw out the word “normal” when the subject turns to author/speaker Justin Lookadoo. From the memorable name to the 6’7” Texas size frame, to the fascinating ability he has to connect with youth through live national speaking engagements “Lookadoo” translates into one word: Original.
This is obvious in the library of successful books he’s authored–most notable among them Dateable. Just ask the thousands of readers of his witty off-the-wall-style of writing that nails reality “slab dab in the middle,” as translated in Lookadoo lingo from his native El Paso. He takes advantage of current hip and relevant cultural twists and turns in the world to show teens that biblical principals and Christian values are actually ‘cool’ rules to live by. He noted in a recent interview: “Everything I do wraps around two themes—identity and purpose. Who am I? Why am I here? These are the challenges that face young people today.”
- When the subject turns to teens and young adults, his is a rare insight into what makes today’s youth “tick.” Lookadoo is, in fact, a certified specialist in the field having served as a Juvenile Probation Officer Crime & Drug Prevention Specialist for 6 years.Justin is today an in-demand national speaker whose credibility is built on books such as The Hardest 30 Days Of Your Life, Extreme Encounters, and the Dateable franchise of books and study guides. His footprint in the field as a youth author is a size 16 in influence.
- Band: Starfield

We welcome back Starfield to lead us in worship at Resurrection. At the end of their last album, “Beauty In The Broken”, Starfield achieved their best radio success to date, were selling twice as many records in half as much time, and had their best touring season in their 6 year history – to say the least, they are gaining momentum. Composed of brothers Tim and Jon Neufeld, Gordie Cochran, and David Crisp, Starfield is back with a new record. The songs offer listeners a potent combination of substance and style. The substance turns out to be the theme and title of the record – “I Will Go.”
While Tim is the first to admit that he doesn’t have it all figured out, he wanted to offer a worship song that commissions people to go out and do something. “I Will Go” is a difficult song to sing and not act on. Ultimately, they hope to provide perspective on how comfortable and convenient our lives have become.
With “I Will Go”, Starfield’s musical mission has never been more clear. Instead of offering the masses yet another CD, the band ventures out into a hurting world with an intentional message that encourages listeners to step behind the confines of comfort for a life of faith that is truly extraordinary.
A deaf interpreter will be provided during Session B of both weekends.

Pray Down At High Noon

Pray Down at High Noon
by Terry Tekyl
Pray Down At High Noon

Experience the power of prayer and join the KSBJ Million Voices Prayer Team
In the mid 1800’s New York City was in an economic depression. Because of the dire financial straits a man named Jeremy Lanphier started a noon prayer meeting and it spread across the nation, and then – across the world. God intervened and the world was changed!
Recent times have been hard on people: a hurricane, an economic downturn – the election. At times like this we are to rely on God even more.
In Luke 18:1 Jesus told us to “pray and not give up.” Join in the prayers for our city and “Pray Down at High Noon.”
At 12 o’clock each day we will ask you to say the Lord’s Prayer, inviting God’s Presence down on this city at the brightest time of day, so that the Son can shine the brightest.
Our goal is to lift ONE MILLION voices in prayer simultaneously and you can become part of this historical prayer outreach by joining the KSBJ Million Voice Prayer Team.
Jesus taught us to say, “Our Father…”
God is our good and loving Father; would you pause at noon each day and say the most famous of all prayers – the Lord’s Prayer?
Will you join our Million Voices of Prayer?
Just fill out the from below to join.
