God is @ Work in Hillsville: Don’t Miss this Sunday Night: SNL
This Sunday Night will feature SouledOut and Donna Godwin.
We recently found out that 1st Hillsville UMC is the 3rd Fastest Growing Church in Attendance in The Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church. There are many things that have happened to make this possible. #1 God is at work in and through the people of 1st Hillsville. #2 Many people have paid a high price to make changes and introduce new ministry avenues here in Hillsville. To name a few: The SNL (Sunday Night Live) service was added about 4 years ago and has grown from a handful to averaging better than 60 people each week and many times topping 100 people. The 8:30 worship service was added 2 years ago and after 2 years is averaging 40 to 60 people in attendance with more than 80 people on several occasions. Out Of The Box is the newest ministry that this church has stepped out in faith and committed to. Out Of The Box is a ministry to youth and many others but the focus is youth. It is a place where youth can come and feel no pressure to fit into something they are unfamiliar with. It is a place where they can hang out with friends, play pool, surf the net and it is a place where they also learn about Jesus Christ. Out of the Box has touched more unchurched people in the past 6 months than most churches will in years andthat is because it is an environment where people of all backgrounds can feel non-threatened. By the way when I say non- threatened I mean they do not feel that they have to dress or look a certain way to be welcome. The atmosphere is inviting to everybody. We have hosted 150 youth at one time, we have hosted a couples movie night, United Methodist Women, Ministry leaders, an Evangelism clinic, baby showers, wedding showers and birthday parties, Souperbowl Party and even SNL. Out Of the Box is my kind of place because we also worship God there.

Sunday Night Live was a real blast last night. We had the Rev. Lance Turner or better known as Rev. Rage. He spoke about the 3 little pigs and the way they prepared and built their houses. Of course the Spiritual message is that we have to build our house and foundation on God’s Word. It was fun, lots of belly laughing. It is awesome to see how God uses men and women in different forms of ministry. I would love to be able to be as funny as Lance but God has called me to be me. By the way, God has called each of you to be you, what ministry are you applying yourself to?

Youth Worship This Sunday Night: Everyone is Invited: Come as you are, really!
We will gather @ 5:30pm in the Fellowship Hall for our District Officer Elections, Food and Fellowship.
Worship with SouledOut and Comedian Lance Turner will start @ 6:30pm
Our last event was attended by 200 people and we expect as many this time. Come join us as we Worship and Celebrate Jesus

Church, You Are Awesome!
Hillsville FUMC is a “Body of Christ” on the move. The church is us, me and you and the others that God has “Called Out”. The church is not the building, we only meet there.
I know this may not be good English but this is a blog and blogs I am told need to have a few typos and personal traits in them to be really good. I hope this is really good.
Tonight we had our church council meeting, started at 7pm and went to 10:30pm. That is a long meeting but isn’t it Awesome to know that a group of people are so interested in seeing God’s Kingdom grow that they would stay there that long. These folks have jobs that they work all day and then come to a church meeting and stay the evening, that is dedication and my hat is off to you church council members and committee chairs as well.
We discussed the space needs that are so great in our church. We have one class that is meeting on the stage in the fellowship hall, they are not complaining but we know that the interruptions are great. We have a large Tweens group that needs a place to call their own. We have a great band that needs a place to store the equipment they need to do the SNL service right. We have a great and growing Pre School that has so many storage needs for the little children. We have a Choir that is out of room, a Choir loft that is full and over flowing and Sunday school classes that are running out of room. Praise The Lord. These are great concerns to have and our Council is working to meet those needs.
We need to be diligent to pray for the leaders of the committees as solutions are sought and decisions are made. I would go so far as to challenge each of us to Fast and Pray.
As a matter of fact, my hat is off to all the folks in the Hillsville church that work so hard. From the youngest child, youth, young adult, adult and senior citizen. Hillsville is carrying out “The Great Commission”. You are making a difference in a dark world.

I am the Planting Pastor of Out of the Box Worship Center and I also serve as the Associate Pastor of First United Methodist Church in Hillsville Virginia. We are a Multi Site Church, one church in multiple locations. Our 1st campus is located at 225 Fulcher Street in Hillsville Virginia. Our 2nd location is on Main Street in Hillsville, FUMC Downtown, Out of the Box Worship Center, and our 3rd location is 522 North Main Street in Hillsville and this is our Youth Ministry Center, FUMC Downtown “Out of the Box”, Youth Ministry. The most recent ministry we have is “Out Of The Box Worship Center” and we are located at 516 North Main Street Hillsville. This site is now my main focus, along with the Youth Ministry.
I have a Passion to see hurting people come to know Jesus Christ. I believe that we as Christians have to demonstrate God’s Love to the world, rather than just telling them they are loved. I am married and have 3 sons two very special nephews that are like sons, 2 grandchildren, 5 great nephews, and one great niece that are like grandchildren. I am a blessed man.
I attended school at Carroll County High School, Wytheville Community College, Liberty University, and Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary.
